Digital Point

I was on a blog a week ago researching various ways to use Google Adsense and I cam across a list of websites that let you use your Adsense code in them. The list was a bit outdated and some of the sites did not appear to still support the Adsense code, but the idea is there. Long story short on those sites you used their services and on the pages on which you used the services your ad would display X percent of the time. One of these sites which I did join was Digital Point forums.

The system on Digital Point is that after X number of posts (currently 50) your ads will display half the time in topics you start. This sounded a bit lucrative to me so I joined, and as of writing this article I’m not yet at fifty posts. It turns out though that the point of this article is not about Adsense, but rather about the forums at Digital Point.

At its busiest moments it gets probably a post every few seconds. I’ve never seen less than 200 members online and usually counting guests the count on there is over a thousand. As active as the forum is, it seems almost like the stock exchange. There are various services bought, sold, auctioned, and awarded on that site that it is impossible for any one user with nothing else in his day to keep up with them all. I’ve been browsing all the forums looking for useful things, some I’ve found, and some I haven’t. I’m thinking about going through the archives sometime and blogging about anything useful I might find.

It has 6 main sections for the various parts of the webmasters life. I’ve spent most of my time just perusing the new posts looking for free directories and other goodies but it seems that almost any walk of site out there can grow from this forum. I hope that someday I’ll be that good on this site, but until I hit that mark, it’s just going to be how it is. I know there are few on here now, those of you on here aren’t even that active, but it’s all got to start somewhere right? I’ll try to find something juicier sometime soon.

Since this is just my first post on my blog I'd thought I'd talk about my site in general. It seems that as time goes on, I keep using phpBB as a core for my site, and it grows around it. The few of you who remember the site before I used the phpbb message board probably don't remember much. I just had a few articles and games. Now as time has gone on, I've interwoven both my site and the message board. Chances are good that you are reading this blog from my site, while infact it is being posted on a hidden board on the forum. I just wrote a script to remove the proper code at the proper time. The poll I have on my main site does use it's own code a bit, but I do use the phpBB dbal engine for the sql queries. I'm currently adding page constants for my entire site so that when it is hit, the person on it shows up in the index of the forum. I'm planning to allow for people to even customize my site to their personal liking eventually. You come here for my blog, I can make the blog show on the main page instead of the news. Or if games are your thing, you'll go to games instead of the main page. I've got lots of ideas, and anybody reading this is welcome to give me any more you have. I added the poll feature because while I do expect everybody who comes to my site will likely share my interests, some will have more. If I can put something up that will bring people back, thats good. If theres something you'd like to see on here, from articles to games to news to writing your own articles on here to something I haven't thought of yet, post it up. Be as specefic or general as you please. When something gets a lot of votes, I'll try to make it. If something is easy and gets a few votes, I'll again try to make it. It just will come down to time.

Just remember, as this site has no specific point to it, it can grow in any direction at all, and I'd rather it grow into many directions. As it gets bigger, I may split it into seperate sub-domains, but the main link won't change. Well I suppose that is enough for now. I'll try to focuss more in my next blog article.
